Post Office Car Insurance underlines the importance of car insurance
London, UK (PRWeb UK/PRWEB ) March 3, 2010 — Research has shown that many under 35s are underestimating the importance of car insurance, as 10 per cent of 18 to 34-year-olds are unaware that car insurance is a legal requirement . Post Office Car Insurance is therefore advising drivers that car insurance is a necessity.
Post Office Car Insurance reminds drivers that taking to the road without car insurance could result in vehicle seizure, a minimum of six penalty points on their driving licence and a £200 fine.
Under 30s represent 14 per cent of the driving population and there are currently an estimated 900,000 drivers in this age group driving without car insurance according to a report by the Motor Insurance Bureau. Of this driving population nearly 600,000 of those between 21 and 29 are driving without car insurance .
The car insurance findings are more worrying when combined with statistics from the Department for Transport, which show that drivers are most at risk of having an accident in the first two years after they pass their test. One in five newly qualified drivers has a crash of some description within a year .
By driving without car insurance, the Post Office is warning drivers that they are not only putting themselves at risk of a potentially costly payout, but are also breaking the law. During a typical week in the UK, three people are injured in accidents involving drivers without car insurance .
